Posted on

The COVID-19 pandemic has made life difficult and challenging in many aspects. It has impacted our life in ways we never could have imagined. Fear, anxiety and stress have just been a few of the emotions we have felt during this time. When things are down, it’s important to look for a bright spot. Luckily, when you are a cat parent, you don’t have to look far!

In the UK, a survey has been conducted by the University of York and the University of Lincoln about the impact of a lockdown. Results have shown animal companions made it easier for people to get through the lockdown. When people were feeling down, cuddling our pets made it easier to cope with the situation.

People feeling lonely has been one of the biggest challenges to overcome while being stuck at home. Technology nowadays makes it possible to stay in touch with friends and family in a lot of different ways, but it just simply can’t replace real human contact. Having a cat at home makes it easier to deal with the situation. Talking, petting and cuddling your cat are great ways to relieve some stress. Your cat will also love the extra attention! For cat owners, it won’t be a surprise having a pet at home is key in having a happy and more productive life.

This study is relevant during these challenging times and was created with the recent lockdowns all over the world in mind. However, the result also appears promising when looking at animal companionship and mental health in general. Further research needs to be done on this subject, but all cat lovers out there already know why it’s so great to have a cat around. Happy is the home with at least one cat!

If you have any trouble or mental issues, don’t hesitate to talk with others about it. Even talking to your cat can help!

Stay safe!
